Victoza may cause Pancreatic Cancer

If you are a Type II Diabetic who has taken Victoza to control your blood sugar and later developed pancreatic cancer, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries.

Victoza (Liraglutide), a once-daily injection, was approved by the FDA on January 25, 2010 for use in adults with Type II Diabetes. Patients using the drug are at a higher risk for developing acute pancreatitis, which we believe puts patients at a higher risk for developing pancreatic cancer.

In June 2011 the FDA issued a safety warning about the potential risks for thyroid cancer and acute pancreatitis in patients using Victoza.  Abdominal pain is a common sign of pancreatitis. Initially, the pain may be mild and then increase in intensity, or you may suddenly develop severe pain in your upper abdomen that radiates to your back. The pain may begin or become worse after eating and may feel worse when laying flat on your back. The pain could last for a few days. Your abdomen may also be swollen and tender.

Regarding Pancreatic Cancer, it is a silent disease, meaning the cancer can progress without early warning signs. The symptoms of pancreatic cancer are also similar to those of pancreatitis: pain in the upper abdomen, nausea and vomiting. You may experience weight loss and feel weak. Your skin and eyes may appear yellow, your urine look darker and your stools appear pale or gray.

If you or someone you know has taken Victoza and developed cancer, you should speak with us to learn more about your legal rights.
